![]() Gaming is permitted 24x7 but there is no onsite hotel. The casino itself is housed on a stationary barge but once inside, it is impossible to tell the gaming floor space was built over water. The Horseshoe is easily the largest of the 6 Chicagoland casinos in terms of floor space and number of gaming machines/tables. The Amtrak station serving Hammond is within walking distance of the casino. Not much else to do in the immediate area, unless you happen to have a boat docked at the Hammond Yacht Club located next door or enjoy watching trains. ![]() The casino is located in a grittier part of Chicagoland, home to several major steel mills (open and shuttered) and other industrial plants, so don't expect most gamblers to look like they just appeared in a Las Vegas Strip casino tv ad. To avoid tolls, take Lake Shore Drive south from downtown Chicago and continue as the road changes names (and directions) several times before running into Indianapolis Boulevard. Horseshoe Hammond is arguably the closest casino to downtown Chicago, conveniently located off of the Chicago Skyway (I-90).
